Have you ever seen people look (abnormally) smaller than their age? I bet you have. This abnormality could sometimes be due to a genetic disorder or a nutritional deficiency of some sort. Similarly, it is very possible for us to remain as children, falling and walking, struggling with the old nature of sin irrespective of how long we have been born-again, especially if we aren’t feeding adequately on God’s word.
Please, don’t get me wrong; I am not trying to speak lightly of how long you have been saved but the truth be told, we wouldn’t be able to fully walk in the freedom God purchased for us in Christ Jesus if we decide to starve our spirits of God’s word.
Most Christians are familiar with Romans 8:19, but have never really taken out time to wonder why the creation eagerly awaits the manifestation of the sons of God. The answer is not far-fetched, it’s revealed in the subsequent verses.
“For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God”. – Romans 8:20-21 NIV
Look around you; do you see a world full of frustration? Young and old alike, wandering in confusion to the point of committing suicide. It will surprise you to know that God is also aware of this frustration, but then, we are told from the above scripture (vs 21) that this was God’s will! Now, I am sure you are wondering…I thought God was the good God and devil, the bad devil, why then would the frustration of the creation (world) be a part of His will? First things first, that a thing is His will doesn’t necessarily mean that God caused it, but that He permitted its occurrence (but even at that, why on earth would God permit such a thing?). Okay, let’s go back to the scripture “…but by the will of the one who subjected it, IN HOPE that the creation itself will be liberated…” Did you see that? God actually allowed the creation to be subjected to frustration for its own good, for its liberation from bondage to decay and corruption so that they can also experience the glorious freedom of God’s people. Maybe you didn’t get saved out of frustration, but my dear, I did; I was tired of the way I was living. Although I was living a generally “okay life”, I however felt certain emptiness inside of my soul.
I stand to agree with God’s word that until a man becomes frustrated or dissatisfied about his present state, change would remain rather impossible. This is the not so “far-fetched answer” I was referring to earlier!
But how can they be liberated if we who are expected to be manifested aren’t manifesting anything, and how can we manifest as sons of God if we haven’t experienced this liberation and glorious freedom ourselves? How can we experience this liberation and freedom without knowing the truth, and how can we know the truth without studying God’s word?
We know from scriptures that the key to freedom is the knowledge (and revelation) of the word (see John 8:32). Hence, our knowledge of the truth and subsequent walk in freedom is ultimately linked to the salvation of the world! God’s word in us is the solution to the world’s frustration and the salvation of the world is directed linked to our manifestation.
