What is grace?
Who is grace?
How can I access this amazing grace?
Can we continue in sin because we have grace?
A picture of grace
“Hey there! All who are thirsty come to the water! Are you penniless? Come anyway – buy and eat! Come, buy your drinks, buy wine and milk. Buy without money – everything’s free!” – Isaiah 55:1 MSG
With grace, everything is absolutely free. It’s not dependent on the receiver’s capacity or ability but on the giver’s generosity.
Grace says, though you’ve done absolutely nothing to deserve what I give, yet I freely give you all things and your part is simply to believe and receive…come anyway, just come and you will receive.
Grace is a divine entity; it is generally defined as unmerited favour – an exclusive gift of and from God. It is an expression of God’s kindness and love towards man, a gift and blessing which only He can give.
This amazing grace is God’s given privilege which can never be obtained based on man’s work or good deeds. Being a free gift, it can only be accessed by faith in the giver.
“His choice is based on his grace, not on what they have done. For if God’s choice were based on what people do, then his grace would not be real grace”. – Romans 11:6 GNT
Apart from being a divine entity, grace is also a person. It isn’t just an intangible gift, but the person of Jesus – He is the grace of God that brings salvation to all men.
“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men”. – Titus 2:11
Grace is also the power of the Holy Spirit at work in us that enables us to overcome sin. Hence, if any man be in Christ, he has this power/grace and is an over comer. Grace is not dormant but POWERFUL. It is at work in us through the person of the Holy Spirit.
The goodness of grace
Grace is really amazing; it’s not just of benefit to the believer but also to those who have not accepted the salvation that Christ brings.
As we said earlier, grace is that which brings salvation to all men (and women alike) and by it, we can freely receive God’s love and forgiveness irrespective of what we have done in the past,
“But God’s mercy is so abundant, and his love for us is great, that while we were spiritually dead in our disobedience, he brought us to life with Christ. It is by God’s grace that you have been saved.” Ephesians 2:4-5
Man’s justification is also a result of grace. We are put in right standing with God only because of His grace.
“Everyone has sinned and is far away from God’s saving presence. But by the free gift of God’s grace all are put right with him through Christ Jesus, who sets them free.” Romans 3:23-24 GNT
